From Councillor Christine Michaud
I hope you all had a restful and fun packed summer season! Know that the fun doesn’t stop at the end of summer, as the Doon Pioneer Park Community Association (DPPCA) continues to bring the community some great programming and events for all ages.
The DPPCA in collaboration with KPL and the city invite you to enjoy the Fall Family Fun Fair on Saturday, September 21 from 10-Noon. Kids will be delighted by music and vocal entertainer, Erick Traplin, along with games, arts, and crafts. Mark your calendars, so your kids don’t miss the DPPCA’s annual Halloween and Christmas events on October 26 and December 7 respectively, from 1-3pm.
I’m excited about the lights planned for the Upper Canada ball diamonds that will allow for additional time slots for games. Lights will turn off 15 minutes after 11pm, and teams let the city know if they finish early, so the lights can be turned off remotely. There is little light “spillage” beyond the field of play, and it looks much like a dark curtain beyond the “spill” point. I’m happy to discuss the changes if you have questions or concerns. Call the Contact Centre to report any issues with the lights at 519-741-2345, they are open 24/7.
Prosit! As we head into Fall, mark your calendars with the keg tapping at the Opening Day Ceremonies of Oktoberfest in downtown Kitchener on Friday, October 11. Council and city staff will also be serving up sausage on a bun, a cold drink and cookies at Council’s Grillefest, running from 11am-2pm. All proceeds are donated to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. Canned goods accepted at the event.
I would love to chat and have a coffee with you at my monthly “Meet and Greet” held on the 3rd Saturday from 10-11:30am. I hope to see you at the next one on September 21 at the Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre. If you would like to connect about any city or ward matters, please email me at christine.michaud@kitchener.ca.
